| Well, you've stumbled on the official website for Jonathan den Hartog, lucky you. Here you will find various resources that I like to have available wherever there is access to the Net. I will probably continue to build from this site as I have time. I plan to restyle the image gallery to match this look... maybe. Read on if you're not already bored silly. | ||
| Me, Myself & I | ||
| So, who am I? Well, I'm a licensed Civil engineer working for the State of California. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona and have worked for Caltrans ever since. I enjoy the work for it's challenges, the opportunities to learn, and the new things I face every day. A lot of people think working for a state agency means you have lots of time to slack off. Maybe that's true, but for the motivated, there is a lot of opportunity within Caltrans to work hard and learn a lot. | ||
| Computer Nerd | ||
I guess you might call me a computer nerd. I spend hours upon hours on computers. I took a minor in computer science at school and I like to program. I guess it's the engineer in me wanting to make everything more efficient. Caltrans has given me the opportunity to do lots of programming... primarily web-based applications. It is amazing how much you do to make engineering tasks easier when you know how to program and you are familiar on a day-to-day basis of what things a civil engineer works on. I am fluent in VBA, ASP and HTML. I have a working knowledge of Perl, and can do all sorts of things in Javascript and Access. But my current language of choice is PHP, especially in conjunction with MySQL. Caltrans has many large datasets in legacy systems, and I enjoy finding ways to extract that data and port it into a web application that is faster, more scalable, and accessable to all within the department. But you'll have to take my word for it. I only have one other site besides this one out on the Internet. The other four or five sites I maintain are all Caltrans intranet sites. The other site I maintain on the Internet is for my church: http://www.hopeprc.org |

On a more serious note, I am a serious Christian that professes the truths of the Reformed faith. The Reformed faith confesses the sovereignty of God in salvation. It is not the wishy-washy arminianism of most of today's churches. Salvation is not dependent on a choice made by man. The Reformed faith holds to the absolute authority of scriptures as the Word of God. It professes the truths outlined in the acrostic, TULIP... Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Preservation of the Saints. To read more about the Reformed faith, check out the wealth of literature at the following web sites: http://www.hopeprc.org | http://www.prca.org "Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth." |
